Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) Analysis During 2023 Extreme Weather in Jakarta, Indonesia

The increase in Earth's Temperature caused by climate change can affect weather variability in various parts of the world. Extreme weather phenomena such as thunderstorms and extreme heat that occur in Jakarta throughout 2023 support the need for intensive monitoring of the atmospheric conditions. The research aims to analyze the Convective Available Potential Energy (CAPE) parameters as an atmospheric instability indicator that contributes to extreme weather phenomena. Radiosonde data from Soekarno-Hatta Meteorology Station in 10-11 February 2023, as well as 11-12 October 2023, are used to determine the CAPE value, tropopause height, and atmospheric thickness. The result shows a significant increase in CAPE value on 11 February 2023, reaching 22265,05 j/Kg during the thunderstorm phenomenon, while a significant decrease in CAPE value occurs on October 12, 2023, to 899,47 J/Kg during the extreme heat phenomenon. These findings display the relationship between CAPE and extreme weather phenomena in tropical regions, especially Indonesia.
