The transition to clean energy is a strategic response to climate change and dependence on fossil fuels. This study evaluates the technical and economic feasibility of co-firing rice husk biomass at the Pangkalan Susu Steam Power Plant (PLTU), with an emphasis on monetizing green energy through Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). A co-firing ratio of 3% generates approximately 1,304 MWh of renewable electricity per year, which is equivalent to 1,304 REC units and potential revenue of IDR 45.6 million. This value contributes 0.1% of the average annual REC requirement, which still has the potential to be improved through increasing the co-firing ratio such as the in-direct co-firing method which allows a very high co-firing ratio, and diversifying the biomass source such as the 20% corn stover ratio found to be the highest reaching 546.9℃ . These findings suggest that biomass co-firing not only aids emission reductions that significantly reducing SO₂ emissions by 29.22%, but also offers financial incentives and supports the growth of a sustainable green energy economy.
