Abstract

Coal fired steam power plants (CFSPP) are currently the supplier of 35% of electricity in Indonesia with the main of fuel source being coal which produces exhaust emissions in the form of CO2 that currently needs to be implemented and developed technology to reduce CO2 gas emissions, one of them is Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technology which has begun to be developed and implemented in some developed countries. In Indonesia, CCUS technology is still a new technology and currently in the study stage to be implemented with both technical and economic considerations. This study aims to investigate the opportunities for implementing CCUS retrofit in reducing CO2 gas emissions at PLN’s coal fired steam power plant with a technical and economic approach analysis, by determining the main component equipment requirements, the costs required, and the amount of CO2 gas emission absorption achieved in CCUS retrofit at coal fired steam power plant. In this study, an analysis method was carried out with a simulation trial on Aspen Hysys software with a sample in the form of a design plan for exhaust gas from the Lombok FTP-2 coal fired steam power plant with a capacity of 2x50MW in the Nusa Tenggara region and using MDEA + Piperazine absorber material. The results obtained from this study are that the CFSPP process cycle with the CCUS system with CO2 absorption up to a capture rate of 90.16% and has a positive economic value for NPV if the Carbon Credit price is IDR 150,000 / Ton CO2, with a Payback Period of 23 years and this indicates that retrofit has the potential opportunity on the CFSPP.
